Our History

  • In 2013, husband & wife team, Richard Gilmore & Dr. Robin Plattenberger-Gilmore purchased the building that Art Domestique is located in. They then started the process of  renovating the building to historical accuracy.
  • The gallery started as a LLC-for profit gallery when it opened. On March 2, 2018, the gallery officially become incorporated as a non-profit organization.
  • Once incorporated, a board started with Kathleen Almelien, Jo Anne Worley, and John Evans as the founding members, along with the Gilmores. Since then, the board has grown to 12 members.
  • The gallery is proud to have held Plein Aire painting competitions every June and Budding Artist competitions for the past 7 years. 
  • The gallery enjoys bringing a broad range of work from southeastern Iowa artists to the public.

Our Collection

Our collection includes a wide range of pieces from artists located all over Southeast Iowa. Our displays rotate every 6 weeks and have pop-up shows that change on a monthly basis.

Art Domestique is a space to exhibit for artists.
Art Domestique is a link for the public to meet artists and to see art work presented for public consumption.
Art Domestique will act as a sales connection between the studio and the public.
Art Domestique is a resource for educational opportunities to the practicing artist and the public to expand knowledge.
